Obviously, but we often have reasonable expectations or context that inform our decisions. When it comes to questions of deity we don't have anything. I live my life as if there's no god of any sort because there's no reason to, but I don't need to. A decision about it doesn't have to be made unless you're a believer in an established religion. Most atheists I know are just people who are incapable of saying "I don't know." They're not more enlightened. In fact, I'd argue that a lot of them are the new Evangelical. The fact that anyone takes Dawkins seriously is laughable.
I would say I'm an atheist and my stance is "I don't know." Describing atheism as the assertion that no god exists is inaccurate, even though there are atheists who would also erroneously make that claim.
