Tried to think of someone else that could challenge him for the title... I got nothing.

Yeah, he probably was.

Bob Ross?

Bob Ross was in the military for 20 years. His job was to scream at people and make them feel bad. He said after he retired and started doing art stuff full time that he never would raise his voice again. He had some type of nickname like "beat em up Bobby."

And he stole his entire shtick from someone else, and that person felt betrayed by him.

Bill Alexander. He was called the Happy Painter and had a company teaching people his wet on wet style of painting. Bob watched his show and did the same thing, selling art he did on pans of the Alaskan landscape where he was stationed. Eventually he made more money selling his art than he did from the military so he retired. He sought out Bill and asked to be his student, so Bill taught him a bunch in person, and asked if he would work for him as one of his traveling art instructors.

Eventually Bob left Bill and copied literally everything that he did, down to almost every little detail and started his own company and became way more famous for it.

They both had a PBS show in the exact same style. They both did it as advertising for selling art lessons and painting supplies. The only difference was their voice and manner of speaking. Bob was much more calm and Bill had a German accent and was more excited, which combined to make him sound kind of angry.
