This is false.

Back before nintendo started selling old games, people pirated them because otherwise they would be paying out their butt for a used copy that doesn't have nintendo see a dime anyways.

Guess what?
Alot of those people also likely rebought the old games they tried out this way when they come to virtual shop.
If they really liked them.

I knew a guy who did this for ff6.
He bought it later on different system. Why did he "pirate it"?
He didn't know he would like it and snes was long off the market. Got bored and just searched library of old games.
Many he tried for a minute and deleted it.
