There is creepy, unknown stuff that happens in real life and it's hard for people to explain what happened. A creepy-pasta is essentially an imitation of these real-life scary stories. Much like a real scary story, it should allow for a generous amount of room for doubt but also enough evidence to suggest that it actually did (or could) happen.
