Theres very different levels of being 'established', charlies angels is a world of difference from marvel or dc in that regard.

but it's not like she had to create something out of thin air, so the argument about an established franchise going a long way to making a successful movie is really thin
everyone has heard of charlie's angels
it's not like fucking stupid avatar where you're building an IP from scratch
it's an established franchise, it's charlie's angels

Not thin at all, you're still ignoring the huge difference in establishment. A bad dc movie is still gonna do well, since people who like the franchise will see it regardless. This isn't the case for charlies angels, there just aren't enough fans of the franchise to make up for it.
