I've never seen Hamilton, but it would be a valid take if Alexander Hamilton was played by a black man. Considering the racial dynamics of the time, you weren't going to find a non-white Founding Father of the United States.

That said, casting a white woman as Harriet Tubman would be a ridiculous decision.

Most of the founding fathers cast were black. That was kind of the whole conceit of the play. The director has explicitly said in interviews his casting was conscious, not color blind. Hamilton himself was Latino. I think the only white founding father was Washington.

By the way, I'm not saying Julia Roberts in this role is a good idea. It's incredibly stupid and I'm glad they didn't go through with it.
