This is pretty much the point of the movie existing in the first place I'm not really sure what people were expecting otherwise. Sonic isn't exactly known for its fascinating story. It's Robotnik vs. Sonic because ???. Which is exactly what this movie is. Just kinda gotta accept that you've grown up beyond the target audience that the jokes will land with. I mean it looks a lot more groanworthy than Detective Pikachu which was pretty watchable on its own merits I did get two smiles out of this 1. Sonic's dumb grin after he says "gift shop was cool though" 2. "I LOVE THE WAY YOU MAKE THEM" Yeah, but Detective Pikachu had enough nostalgia throwbacks that I think people kinda overlooked the cringeworthy story and writing.
