My old house looks different, kids don't come out and play anymore, crime has gone up and my favorite places to eat have either relocated or just no longer in business. It's still a nice neighborhood - a bunch of young families have moved in in recent years and I see kids out playing basketball and riding bikes every time I drive by and it's just like when I was a kid playing with my friends there. Now three of those friends have moved thousands of miles away, one died of an accidental overdose, one was killed by a drunk driver, and the other dropped off the face of the Earth and no one's heard from him in like 12 years.
