Thought about considering Half-Life 2's release its own era, but while it had some huge influence, Half-Life 2 was more revolutionary for gaming in general than the FPS genre specifically. Also don't like calling the modern era the multiplayer era because there are some amazing singleplayer examples, but it can't be denied that the games that really sell and break records at this point in the genre are overwhelmingly multiplayer. ...
