The Confederacy was created to preserve racism and slavery. A few generals not agreeing with it but still fighting for it because it was their native home does not override that. The northern states that wanted to secede doesnt override that either, as they werent a part of it and wanted to secede from the union for different reasons. The man defending the Confederacy is about as ignorant as pasty white leftists defending Socialism. To put it simple, defending the Confederacy and dying on that hill is not putting America first.

Left-wingers have every right to believe in or advocate for socialism as well because that's the entire point of the First Amendment, why do you spend so much time caring about what other people's beliefs are if it doesn't affect you in any way?
