In a way, maybe there is.

Consciousness is an interesting thing. It's quite possible that it continues after death as long as there is a river for it to follow, it can even possibly split into multiple containers.

Children in such a case would be the continuation of their parents and grand parents consciousness, so when you die, if you have children, you continue to exist through them, seeing the universe through their eyes and experiences.

In some cases your wealth and possessions will pass on to them as well, so in many ways it is like having a new game + of life, and could be one of the primary motivations people have to ensure their children have a better life then they had, because it will literally eventually be their life as well.

If children pass away before the parents, that would stop anything from passing on, unless the children were old enough to have kids themselves, then the continuation would be through the grandkids.
