Why?

Because almost the only time I ever delete posts is when the site fucks up or there's a stutter due to shitty Internet and I wind up double posting. So there's no real reason to try and preserve a log of what got deleted or why. I like being able to erase that mistake entirely rather than being forced to leave behind unsightly double posting with one blanked message.

I understand why some people would want it if the people deleting posts are all doing it to troll, but honestly, as long as mods can see deleted posts (which they can) it doesn't really matter all that much.

I honestly prefer when a site just erases deleted posts immediately and pretty much wipes them from existence. [This message was deleted]-type kruft left behind just triggers my OCD and makes me wonder what it was the person deleted, and then I just get kind of annoyed. I kind of prefer not knowing it was ever there in the first place if the person or a mod is going to delete it anyway.

I feel the same way about ignore/block - it's way better to not see the people you're ignoring at all, as if they've completely vanished, as opposed to seeing their name pop up over and over (especially if they're spammy assholes). If I'm going to the trouble of ignoring someone (especially if they're a shit gimmick account, or Duckbear), I want to unperson that motherfucker.
