Maybe people are pessimistic because of widespread alienation and a lack of upward mobility.

That's accurate and not antagonistic. You're a cut above the rest.

The pessimism is an unfortunate facet of our social media/24 news cycle dominated lives. Everything is so stupidly politicized that people don't realize that it is objectively the best time to be alive in almost every region on earth.

That's pretty subjective. What's better, to waste your life away in a cubicle, achieving absolutely nothing, or to die in a war saving your comrades? Different people will answer differently. Just because you lived longer doesn't mean it was more meaningful.

People concerned with the environment ignore all the positive environmental stories coming out, such as the evidence that the Ozone Layer hole is recovering. Use of clean energy is at the highest rate it has ever been, and is on a strong upward trend.

Yup. It's really puzzling why such news that we can all agree are good are left largely ignored.

People concerned with the PC-ification of society don't seem to realize that outside of the internet, the people actually insane enough to be weird SJW obsessed morons is VERY low.

People complaining about white supremecy are in a similar boat, in that they're taking the Twitter accounts of insane racists as some sort of representation of society, when there has never been a better time to be a visible minority, or woman.

Yeah... I have had very strange experiences with shy and well-mannered people in real life that go bonkers on the internet. Because on the internet they frequent circles with other such people, and it's contagious.

I'm trying to bring a little more positivty into my life, so I've been ignoring a lot of these things (less news watching, less Reddit, less Twitter, etc.), and it has been doing wonders for my outlook on the future.

Good! People who can achieve this (because it's not easy kicking a habit) have my respect.
