they propose wild ideas already KNOWING it'll be shut down. this way they can be like, "hey guys, I tried but they said no."

Bernie Sanders was doing this in 2016 with his "free everything" campaign.

Kinda like the whole "Mexico will pay for it" thing yeah? Seems to be a pretty common tactic for politicians to promise things they can't possibly deliver.

their supporters know when things sound "too good to be true," but something about a man in a suit speaking with 100% confidence does this weird override with their ability to be rational.

especially if the demographic is fuelled by righteous indignation and promised an opportunity to "get back at" whoever.
