American comics are only bad by virtue of not having a consistent writer. You can get good runs, but if you look at a series as a whole it is a mess because it's never a single author's vision.

That's not a bad thing, shifting writers can bring new ideas, artstyles and storys into a series that never before were possible and that may have become stagnant or declined in quality and needs something new. Plus forcing an writer to slave away at a single series possibly for the rest of, or the vast majority of their careers while good for the overall story is not good for the writers themsevles, their talant and growth.


Forcing is a weird word to use. You could argue they are compelled by money, but certainly they can and do end series of their own accord. It's not like spin-off manga with new writers and artists aren't a thing in Japan, they just usually suck. Though sometimes amazing remake manga happen (Gundam: The Origin being a great example).
