Topic	Spider-Man out of the MCU, Sony and Marvel unable to reach deal

Spiderman itself was a groundbreaking movie in the superhero genre so before that superhero films had no future. There's no way Marvel could have predicted the lack of Spiderman being so grievously felt in the MCU. They made the right choice at the time, but it was wrong in the long run. They had no choice at the time. They had to sell the rights or the company would have went bankrupt. Sony only wanted Spider-Man at the time. They were offered $25 for every property, and turned, with the head literally saying "Nobody gives a shit about any of the other Marvel characters."
