I think it's because it could traumatize people to learn they killed someone, even indirectly... Probably... Which means they were forced into a traumatic situation. Though, if they decided to do what you say, it could help people get off of jury duty in some cases. Because they might let people who don't want to suffer a traumatic situation go...
