Liberals can easily be fascists. All it takes is to focus on suppressing the left instead of fighting rising facism, which is the choice liberals always make and the reason facism inevitably takes hold in a decaying empire.

When facism is upon you, the contradictions and alienation of capitalism will be met with three opposing cries by the people: help the workers through socialism, maintain the system that resulted in this situation in the first place, and facism. The liberals will prefer facism, which maintains their own accumulated wealth and power, rather than risk it to fight the facists. The facists choose to indulge in their fears and bigotry and turn it against the others they blame for their problems, for they lack a clarity of class consciousness to properly direct their animosity. The socialists will suggest that we change the system completely to eliminate all of these issues and to avoid people turning to facism, and by ignoring them the liberals empower the facists.

History is a perfect circle of hell we are trapped in.
