Cooking for others can bring joy to many people, and it's REALLY useful if you are a picky eater and like really good food. It doesn't take to long to learn basic cooking skills and start making many dishes better then you can get while eating out (and way better than fast food).

After that, you can master dishes over a lifetime, slowly improving them, adding to them etc, until you have a ton of extremely yummy meals that you can make easily.

Look at it as time investment as well. It takes very little actual time (When your doing something) to make say a great pasta sauce, and then boil some water later, compared to the time and expense it takes to go out to eat.

So yeah, being a good cook saves both time and money long term, promotes both your own happiness, and those of the people around you/in your life. It's often much healthier as well, and gives you more options when deciding what to eat.

So basically, EVERYONE should want to cook.
