clear, aren't you a coder? Work on a pet project

I'm a mech engineer with CAD experience, I got like surface level knowledge of coding (mostly python). Not enough to compete with comp sci coders.

You should definitely spend any downtime not looking for a job or working out cleaning the house and cooking (or learning to cook?) for your girlfriend.

You want her bragging to her friends about how amazing it is that you're not working, and not how awful it is.

Yeah I've been taking over dinners (I've always been the main cook but now I'm having it ready when she gets back), and cleaning up after my messes. I feel like Michael Keaton in Mr Mom

I have a few recommendations:
1. Work 8 hours a day at finding a new job. Basically, finding a job and developing skills is your job.
2. Make sure to get dressed, shower, do chores, etc. like you normally would.
3. If you live with somebody else, carve out some time to do nice things for them like cook.
4. When done for the day, be done for the day. Anything past 8 hours is counter productive.
5. Don't be too hard on yourself and don't let the stress control you.

Good luck!

This is all great advice which I appreciate. Right now I have 3-4 ideas on how to move forward that I'm taking action on, and my biggest fear is having paralysis before actually executing them. It takes a conscious effort to carry out shit sometimes, like any jackass can say "I'm gonna get in shape," but it takes balls to actually go outside and run.
