The other examples you gave were glancing blows that didn't pierce or penetrate, not unlike in Empire Strikes Back when Luke bopped Vader on the shoulder.
To be fair, if the argument is that Disney has neutered the weapon, pointing out that they go out of their way to make every hit a glancing blow doesn't exactly counter his point. They are still the ones doing the choreography.
