They are intelligent and affectionate pets, but yeah they require a ton of attention. Probably more so than a dog.

Definitely more so than a dog. They get depressed very, very easily, and if they get too depressed, they give up on life and just die.

I've never heard of that. They get cold and sick easily and die from that, but I've never heard of them "giving up on living and just dying".

They stop taking care of themselves basically, and not eating anything, and they start to go batshit and hurt themselves. It's the same as sticking a person in solitary confinement, they fucking lose it.

I'm speaking only of my experiences with lovebirds here.
