A link summon is similar to a fusion summon, it requires a certain number of materials as listed by the card. When summoned, you can summon it to a special zone in the middle - you can only perform bonus extra deck summons to zones that are pointed to by a link monster (including enemy link monsters) or something they're a nice pretty blue colour --- "Salt cures Everything!"
