There's absolutely no reason to leave anything in the box. Unless you're just going to look at it for years and years and then sell it, which is stupid. If you're going to invest your money there are hundreds of better ways to do it than making a few extra bucks (maybe) on a toy you never got to touch. Most toys/collectibles don't even gain worth over time, they lose it. Just because a company says something is "collectible" doesn't mean it will automatically go up in price. The only thing that makes something worth more later on is if there weren't that many made, and there's a demand for it.

Your life is shorter than you realize. I have collectible stuff from the 70s and 80s that I took very good care of and regardless, the plastic has degraded and become brittle. Plastic and even some die cast metal, rubber, it wasn't meant to last 20, 30, 40 years. A "collectible" is meant to sell and make money for some company right now and they couldn't care less what happens to it afterwards. Keeping it in the package doesn't accomplish anything. If you don't plan on reselling it later, it even makes less sense. You're not a museum.
