I didn't know any details about the disaster nor am I familiar with how radioactive energy works but that entire first episode was so scary to me. I'm guessing everyone in that town dies? Why does Wikipedia say only 14 deaths? The neighboring town was evacuated, some people remained. 14 people probably died as an immediate consequence of the accident but obviously far more people suffered from the radiological effects. They even set up entire medical programs in Ukraine afterwards - people born in the various exclusionary zones were granted certain medical privileges and are tracked to see if they feature any of the symptoms or signs of radiation poisoning.
