To me, cgi just kills modern movies. There's nothing impressive anymore about films. Honest to god I think Independence Day in 1996 was the last film where the special effects really amazed me. There's (now dated) cgi in there sure but so much was still miniatures and models. And it's still visually head and shoulders above stuff like Infinity War.

It's all same-y now. They can render armies fighting, planets exploding, bring dead actors back to life, etc. And none of it is engaging. None of it is special. Too many films rely on it and it always, always looks obvious. To the point that it's just boring.
