More specifically the unique evilties for each unit. Archers for example will provide follow up attacks to an enemy when your other guys attack it, provided you're in range. Warriors gain huge stat increases with the more enemies they're surrounded by. Girl mages can cast spells for half the SP cost but they deal less damage, etc etc. And that's not including all the hero units' evilties.
