I agree.

After more than a year, with people complaining about various things, I'm still none the wiser as to why the film was dreadful / pointless / undermined SW really badly.

So lets go over some points.

-The Treatment of Finn. He went from being a lead to being a side kick to Rose.
-This arc in general. In the Last movie he made the choice to stand up to evil and now he Rose to teach him that lesson.
-How did he learn that less. There is nothing on CB that would have made him side with the Rebels more. He literally just found out that the Rebels are funding slavery.
-He had an good fight with Phasma were he won due to his grit, in what we go in the movie he won the way that Jar Jar would have won.
-Rose stopping him from taking out the gun. Her crashing into him like that should have killed them both.
-Next Rose says.. her dumb like about saving what you love. That is literally what he was trying to do because Rose assaulted him at the start of the movie.
-Let's look at how Finn's Injuries were treated. He got slashed in the back and when wakes up it is treated as joke. Now compare that to how Kylo was treated with his injuries.
-Finn not knowing anything around him and having to be told everything by Rose.
-Finn was even allowed to be the person to call Maz.
-Finn and Rose side plot just everything about it. If they could leave the ship to get the code breaker then they could have left the ship and called for help. Or ship after ship could have left dropping people odd cross the sector.
