Yeah, I wrestled in high school, and it was basically this exactly. His hair would've technically been against the rules, but 90%+ of refs would let it slide because it's unlikely to affect anything. But if you run into a ref who wants to be a hardass, you've gotta cede -- it happened to me and a couple of my teammates, after being fine for many meets before (though I don't think any of us had as much hair as Andrew... but we didn't have any kind of hairnet, either).

Also, it's definitely BS that they made him do it when he went on the mat. The refs are supposed to check that shit at weigh-ins.
