I will concede though that Cuddy being nigh-unlikable is a constraint of having your protagonist being somebody that screws the rules so much.

If Houses insanity works and saves lives, then any foil is essentially dooming a patient for literally no reason.

If Houses insanity is unnecessary, then theres no point to the character.

So they can only have Houses foils be both right and justified some of the time without risking the integrity of their main character.

My problem with Cuddy is that shes such a stickler for the rules for the sake of being a stickler for the rules. Uncompromising Lawful Good has always been my least favorite archetype. She also made the wrong call in that early two-parter and almost cost Foreman his life >_>

But what really grounded my gears in that Cuddy episode is being a dick to that Spanish guy. Every episode up till then she would be the person to put the patients consent above all, but now violating a patients consent was going to cost her money so she went full bitch mode on him rather than Chase, who was the one responsible for sticking the Hospital with a 30000 dollar bill.

You can screw their consent in their best interest if you want but dont have the gall to ask for money after it. >_>

To her credit, she saved that one womans unborn child by screwing with House and the mass hysteria episode she made the right call, but getting her way would have meant thered be no episode >_>
