Customer: OSU better step it up!
Me: Yeah, I guess. I don't particularly care for college football.
Customer: Well they're up by 10 right now.
Me: Oh. Okay. That's cool.
Customer: Yeah, but they should be crushing them. It's closer than it should be.
Me: Alright, I guess. Again, I really don't follow college sports.
Customer: Alabama won tonight, too.
Me: Umm...neat? Maybe? I don't even know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
Customer: Well if they lost that would have meant...
Me: *interrupting* Look, I have no idea what you're talking about. You may as well be talking to a brick wall on this subject right now. I don't follow college sports. I don't know who's good or bad beyond Alabama is always good and OSU is usually overrated. So if you're looking for a deep dive into NCAA football you're talking to the wrong guy. Now if you want to talk about the NFL, I think the Browns and Texans tomorrow is gonna be a really good game.
Customer: Oh...yeah, it should be a fun one tomorrow. Have a good night.
Me: You too. Take care.

And this is a pretty constant thing. Someone will mention something I have absolutely no knowledge of, and while I understand that they're just making small talk so I try to humor them, when I make it clear that I have NO UNDERSTANDING of what they're going on about it should be a pretty good sign that maybe a different subject is in order. And almost invariably they just keep rambling on and on about the same thing and I just stare at them with glazed over eyes waiting for the misery to end. :-/
