The time something comes out doesn't really effect quality. Tons of older games are still much better than new ones. Halo never made a game better than CE. MW1/2 are much better than recent games. So many examples. Not the same at all. When THPS came out PlayStation controllers didnt even have analog sticks on them. They had to fit an entire game on a CD. They are incomparable because tHPS was inherently limited. If you take them in the context of their release, THPS was completely revolutionary and novel with nothing to guide its development. Skate was also pretty revolutionary but it had the benefit of THPS to use as a guide. Skate is for all intents and purposes a THUG ripoff with a cool and skill based trick system.
