For the most part, I'm not that familiar with Luke Cage. I know his backstory, and I know that his wife was invented because the company wouldn't let him date the character the writer wanted him to be with, but that's about it. That, and he's sort of a recovered superhero on account of being the "first" black superhero.

If he's consistently invincible, that's boring. At some point, you have to be challenged to be interesting. Going back to the Robocop comparison, bullets didn't work but then the bad guys dropped steel beams on him. There's plenty you can do with a character of that strength level to keep the competition alive and give the people a reason to root for the hero. It doesn't have to be as simple as he walks on the scene, he wins.


I'd put him below Spider-Man when it comes to abilities for what it's worth.

It's not that he's invincible, his skin is unbreakable.

There have been a few times where blunt trauma (explosion, close range shotgun) damaged his insides and doctors couldn't get through his skin to do anything.
