So then what's the point when you know how the sad story will be miraculously fixed by then end? Sounds kinda lame

Because they actually do a super compelling job making it seem like hope is lost for a resolution. And it's set up like there is going to be a time where they can't fix it in the end. The story it takes to get is very difficult to predict as well. It's really a brilliant show in that respect.

For background, it's about a guy who has an atheist podcast who gets a random Facebook request from someone called God. This God account then gives him all kinds of friend suggestions for people who have some kind of issue and need saving in one way or another. So the side plots typically follow trying to figure out who is behind it while they keep trying to do good to help people. It tackles a lot of really interesting social issues in some episodes, whereas others just deal with complicated relationship matters.

I absolutely recommend the show. My girlfriend has cried during every episode. I thought she would make it through the last one, but she still cried at the end.
