Back in the 40s and 50s, Pepsi heavily advertised to the black community. Ozzie Davis got his start as a child actor by being a part of a Pepsi print ad. Duke Ellington was a spokesman for Pepsi. Coke use to denigrate Pepsi by spreading the nickname "N-word Cola" outside of their ads and only focused on advertising to whites. Pepsi would use this in their advertisements to push blacks further away from Coke.
