Topic | Was Calculus part of your regular high school math? |
Jeff AKA Snoopy 11/11/18 7:39:45 PM #1: | I kinda wonder how Calculus is approached now. Back when I was in high school (I'm 34 now), Calculus was a specialized course. You only took it as a prep course for University. The rest of our Mathematics was broken up into 3 basic realms, and you only needed 1 to get your degree. Pre-Calc Math - Seen as the most advanced if you weren't doing Calculus itself. General mathematics classes designed to bridge you to Calculus if you saw fit. University accepted. Applied Math - More focused on using programs to do mathematics and understanding that as opposed to going into Calculus. University accepted for most programs, especially for programming. Consumer Math - The math focused for more "remedial" students, it was actually the most life useful. It focused on mortgages, loans, setting budgets, etc. etc. Not university accepted however. --- ... Copied to Clipboard! |
