I read online somewhere that over 50% of people involved in Hentai production are women.

Can't remember where that it was but it was a counter argument raised when the UN was going after Hentai and Anime porn in Japan because it's Anti-Woman.

And Japan was like

2. "You know if we banned it that would be mostly women out of a job right?"

That being said, no I doubt artists masturbate to their own work. It's probably no different to them than a bored mostly uneducated IT tech zombie answering the phone for the 14th time that day.
