"Yeah." Kidd was definitely being sincere when he said this. "I'm done with adventuring."

There was no reason to go back out there. The most valuable treasure in the world was already right here with him. Then, he felt himself growing quite nervous. There was something he had been wanting to say but even Kidd didn't know how to say it. This was the one person in the world that he felt like understood him, that he felt comfortable around, and yet it was still making his heart race and he was having difficulty forming the words.

He'd faced far more dangerous things before, hadn't he? So why did it seem so hard? "I was also thinking we could... maybe..."

Susal took his hand, covered in bandages. It wasn't numb anymore. The feeling had returned. The feeling had definitely returned. Because when she moved his hand and put it on herself, he felt that she was unusually warm. Even moreso than he could remember.

"Kidd, we've..."

Her mouth kept moving but he found himself in a soundless world. He couldn't hear the rest of what she said, at least, not with his ears. But somehow it felt like his heart heard what she was trying to tell him. He felt his eyes flickering and blinking, stinging with a weird sensation. It wasn't really pain or sadness but he felt his eyes growing a little bit misty.

She must have known what he was going to say, because her reply addressed it perfectly.

If he had died back there... he really would have never forgiven himself.

When Susal saw his reaction she laughed softly to herself. She felt like she had won, because she had made this stoic and cool seeming guy crack so easily. Her mouth finally widened into a true, full, and genuine smile. Her eyes closed with a silent joy and she tilted her head while forcing her way back into his arms.

Kidd saw the same smile he had always seen a hundred times before, the one he had been missing for what felt like far too long. Her teeth were somewhat crooked... yet he didn't think there was any smile that was more perfect for him.
