I think Dave Chappelle said it best in his last netflix special when he was talking about how one time as a kid he had a backpack full of money he had to go bring to someone. He described how terrified he was that someone would find out what he had in the backpack and rob him. And he compared that to what women go through, because they wall around with something many people want and will and have taken it by force when given the opportunity in the past. I thought it was a good analogy that illustrates why women are more defensive and afraid to be alone especially at night.

It's their fault for no having pants with pockets and having to carry a purse everywhere.
