The sad part about TLJ is you could remove Finn and Rose from the movie entirely and you'd end up with a better movie. A bad fate for characters to endure.

RO was fine, though disjointed at times.

I actually didn't think the casino scenes were that much of a low point of the film, however to me they were emblematic of the main its main problems - the film switching between two or three different plotlines that only marginally affect each other (not the first movie I've seen with that problem, hello Batman Returns!) and then just feeling plain padded. How many climaxes can you have, movie? What is this, Lord of the Rings? Except there we had a good idea of the characters' objectives and motivations and the stakes, whereas for The Last Jedi those are all murky - all because the prequels were lambasted for having too much exposition so can't have any of that lest fans complain! Doesn't help that Rogue One actually did have that problem.

Part of me feels like the current trilogy is built largely on avoiding criticisms of previous installments to the detriment of their actual quality. This may be a reason for Lucasfilm's seeming meltdown and attacks on fans - they mostly used fan input on previous films to make the new movies, and now they don't have any clue what the fans want so they just decide that they're scum. Or worse, racist and sexist! Which they kind of are in a way, but attacking your own customers is still hardly a great idea.
