I'm going to float a theory. What if rematches actually predicated new results? Like, people saw the way one match played out and said, "Nah, look, here's what we're really gonna do..."

Like, as strange as it sounds, I could actually see Link losing in the grand finals if everyone banded together against him, even if it was a N9'er he defeated once already.

That would happen if

a) the original match was super close

b) there's a rally or rally spillover that affects future matches

But what about if the results of the first match causes the rally?

If not Link in the finals, consider it for one of those early top 16 matches. Like, imagine Pikachu manages to get the better of Mega Man, and then gets trounced by Link. Mega Man takes care of, say, Vivi, and then squares off against Pikachu again. I could see the board coming out and defending him against Pokefear. OR, if it goes the other way and MM wins the first one, I could see the registered users riding in support the rat.

Maybe a better version would be if Sans actually pulls together some strength and wins his division. Sans vs Sonic might result in a rally deciding the first match, and then the board rearing up for the rematch, or the site dumpstering Sans and then a rally mounts after that to keep him alive.

One more variation: Snake could lose to Mario, and then rise up to win in the rematch because people would rather see him in the finals than another Link/Mario SFF-fest. Especially if Mario loses in the WB finals.

I dunno. At the very least, this possibility of the door swinging the other way on the rematch simply because the voters remember the first results and are responding to it is reason enough for me to want to tiptoe around those LB matches very carefully.
