| Topic | iPhone XS and XS Max marred by screen, battery, camera and connectivity problems |

I completely forgot that existed. Still, it's pretty cheeky that they're cutting corners on their "value" phone that's still $750. $750, fuck me. Like, I get it, it's the phone for everyone that just wants a new iPhone but doesn't wanna cough up four figures. But if you're deeply invested in the iOS ecosystem and you're looking to upgrade, you can only go as cheaply as a lower-end model without an OLED screen with the pixel density of their eight-year-old iPhone 4. That wouldn't be so bad if it were just $300 or less. But $750. My goodness. Not to mention, the iPhone is a giffen good, so they can get away with exorbitant pricing because it's meant to be a status symbol. So I could see the XS and XS Max selling to the fashion-focused crowd, but if their low-end is really gonna be that expensive, I can see that driving a lot of not-so-wealthy people to Android. Which wouldn't be much of a problem in the short run, but, lower sales across the board = less concern for iOS development = a weaker app store, and a weaker ecosystem. The modern fashion-focused Apple is... questionable. Fashion and technology have never really merged much before, and the fashion world is fickle and willing to drop anyone and anything on moment's notice. It seems like they're playing with some very high-risk, high-reward tactics lately, so I guess we'll see where they are in ten years. --- Join the Nintendo Fun Club today, Mac! ...
