I actually find Android (from Marshmallow onward) to be a far more "it just works" ecosystem than iOS. iOS has added a lot of features over the past few years, but in a misguided effort to keep the home screen as "pure" as possible, they created endless menus and sub menus in the Settings section.

Plus, there are some inexplicable design choices that are starting to become obnoxious. Legitimate widgets, for one.

I agree with this entirely I'm just saying this goes against the core beliefs Apple built their ecosystem on. If you ever got into the Nexus line and then into the Pixel you'd see how absolutely buttery smooth the whole experience is, but also how user-friendly it is. Want to beta test the newest Android OS? Feel free. Want to download whatever APKs, 3rd party apps, etc. Yep have fun

Android's biggest issue are the low and midrange phones ruining the reputation of the flagships.

Also third party corps putting their shit launcher instead of just using vanilla android.
