The only similarity between he and Warren was unrequited love for the protagonist, and in Warren's case you have the option to reciprocate. But as dorky as Warren was, he had some charm and genuinely loved Max not just romantically but as a person/friend. He came to her aid at his own risk numerous times and would NEVER have backed her into a corner (literally).
