If queer is a derogatory term why do they themselves include it in their group? LGBTQ

Queer has been reclaimed by the LGBT community: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reappropriation
If you want to read up on what that means/entails.

That said, just because a word has been reclaimed by its group doesn't mean that it can't still be used as a pejorative or that it's always okay to say. Context and intent always matter.

Basically, it's like how black people as the intended recipients of the n-word can reclaim and use it, but no other people can use it. Same thing here, only LGBT people can reclaim it. That said, uses of it like "queer visibility/ representation" when discussing the tropes or lack of characters in media? That's one of those "everybody can use it in that context" type of deals.

tl;dr context is extremely important
