Face it, he was a moron who was a figurehead. Just because they were his advisors does not mean they were hundred percent correct. Wars are not just lost and won on the battlefield. Its easy to get this false representation of war because war entertainment hardly touches on logistics, politics, non combat troops, and etc because they are meant to entertain not inform. Again, Germany was fighting a losing war due to manpower/resource shortages and its alliances were not as cohesive and efficient as the Allies. Putting all this in to play, Germany fell back from El Alamein because they were beaten resourcefully.
