By that logic there's no reason to watch any movies before Infinity War, because all of them only introduce characters or expand on ideas that aren't necessarily "relevant". Almost everything you need to know to understand what's happening in Infinity War is more or less explained IN Infinity War, even if only as a throwaway line when someone new shows up or something happens.
