Topic	How would you defend against a home intruder, without a gun?

Do your landlords know you have a serial killer themed bedroom? I actually though about rigging the HCL and Thermite into traps, but automation just increases the risk that I kill someone innocent (acid) or burn down the building (thermite). I still have the knives/scalpel and the hammer and pipe at the ready though (I pull out the drawer they are in before bed so there's no need to fumble with it in the case of a break in).
