Look, its okay if you dont use cash for whatever reason, but the whole trope of "who uses cash in 2018" needs to die.

Working retail, at least 30-50% of customers, young and old alike, for one.

The main driving point is that using cash for transactions is generally stupid for any number of reasons, unless you're engaging in criminal or otherwise covert conduct (or if you somehow don't have a bank account or the vendor doesn't take anything except cash because he's cheating the IRS)

Anyone using a card for less than $20 is a fool.

Using cash for things under $20 is even stupider because you get no points on the transaction, you get stuck dealing with coins,

I'm not going to spend an extra nickel on gas either, cash wins.

Some gas stations are same price whether it's cash or credit and some cards offer a benefit that exceeds the extra nickel. Right now, my card has a 5% back for spending at gas stations which means that every dollar at a gas station is a nickel back (or 15-cents per gallon, meaning that even once you factor in the extra nickel cost I still get a dime back vs paying cash).

2 I'm not on shit street if the card readers are not working for whatever reason

Because you can't just use cash as a backup?

Stolen cards are replaceable, stolen cash is gone.

Stolen cards are also directly linked to your bank account. Cash in your hand is not.

You need a pin for debit so they can't access your bank account and credit cards aren't linked directly to your bank account. If you're a cash guy and get robbed, you're likely losing at least a hundred bucks. If you're a card guy, you're losing the spare $20-30 you keep in your wallet for emergencies and then nothing on the cards.

Plus if a business somehow cheats you, then you have zero recourse with cash. A credit card you can easily cancel that charge and even a debit you can get your money back. Not to mention that you can't be shortchanged by a clerk with a card.

Overusing the card turns the statement in an incomprehensible mess, so if there's a transaction that wasn't made by me buried in there, it'll be much more difficult to notice. So I always keep a fair amount with me to use on the small stuff and refill that every month.

It's never incomprehensible and, more importantly, online banking lets you export the data into a spreadsheet so you can actually see your spending habits. Not to mention that most fraud is pretty recognizable since it's either larger purchases or occurs at places you don't shop -- and, if it's out of state, your credit card company will alert you.
