The second season focuses on the titans again, but giving some clues about where they may have come from, and some dark mad scientist shit going. There's some hints about it, but the plot is still focused on them battling the Titans and figuring out how to get rid of them. Then season 3 just immediately starts off with politics and government corruption bullshit that was only ever lightly touched on, if at all in the first 40 or so episodes.
